according to the introduction, the production process of titanium tetrachloride is a common front process for the production of titanium metallurgical products such as sponge titanium and titanium materials and titanium chemical products such as titanium dioxide by chlorination method. It is also a process with high environmental risks in the whole production process. At present, titanium tetrachloride required for the production of sponge titanium and titanium dioxide by chlorination in the world is basically prepared by two types of chlorination methods, namely boiling chlorination and molten salt chlorination. In recent years, China's titanium industry chain has developed rapidly. From 2008 to 2012, the output of sponge titanium increased by nearly 14% annually, and the output of titanium dioxide also increased by 16% annually. In 2012, the output of domestic sponge titanium and chlorinated titanium dioxide reached 81500 tons and 27000 tons respectively, and the annual use of high-quality titanium rich materials (including rutile and high titanium slag, titanium dioxide content> 90%) is about 280000 tons. In the next five years, the annual output of titanium sponge in China will reach 100000 tons, the annual production capacity of titanium dioxide by chlorination will increase by 500000 tons, and the demand for high-quality titanium rich materials will reach 800000 tons per year
Meng Jun, chief engineer of Guiyang Aluminum Magnesium Design Institute, said that the current shortage of high-quality titanium rich materials in China has directly affected the development of sponge titanium and chlorinated titanium dioxide industry. In particular, China is highly dependent on the imported chlorinated titanium dioxide technology, and the requirements for raw materials are very strict. At this stage, the vast majority of high titanium slag produced from domestic titanium resources continue to promote high-quality development and innovative development, which cannot meet its requirements. According to him, more than 80% of China's titanium resources are rocks and minerals. The content of calcium oxide and magnesium oxide in minerals is high, and the content of titanium dioxide in titanium slag is only 76% - 78%. Therefore, increasing the research and development of titanium slag upgrading technology and providing qualified titanium rich materials for domestic titanium dioxide by chlorination has become the primary task of China's titanium slag industry
according to the introduction, at present, there are more than 60 titanium slag production enterprises in China, mainly concentrated in Sichuan, Yunnan, Hebei, Liaoning, Inner Mongolia and other provinces, with an annual production capacity of 1.5 million tons. Although there are many titanium slag production enterprises in China, there are few large-scale enterprises. There is only one enterprise with an annual production capacity of more than 100000 tons, which lags far behind foreign countries. In recent years, due to the shortage of domestic power resources and titanium concentrate, some titanium slag enterprises have stopped production or reduced production. The annual output of titanium slag in China is about 650000 tons, including about 200000 tons of chlorinated slag, which is far from meeting the demand of the existing titanium industry for high-quality titanium slag raw materials, and must be supplemented by imported rutile and high titanium slag
